The Battle for Vision: Why Clarity Matters in the Christian Life.
“Twenty clear days a year—that sounds about like my life,” writes John Eldredge in Waking the Dead.
Most of us know exactly what he means. The rest of life feels foggy, like staring into a steamed-up mirror after a hot shower.
Have you ever wondered: What exactly am I clear on these days? Where has God been in my story? What should I do next—and how can I be sure it will work out?
If so, you’re not alone.
When Life Feels Like a Haze
Getting clear on the things that matter in life is hard. Maybe you’ve felt it too:
The vague haze around the bigger picture.
The ease of going through the motions without asking why.
The quiet, unspoken question: Is this really the abundant life Jesus promised?
There’s a reason clarity feels so rare: we are in a battle.
The Battle for Your Vision
At its core, the fog is spiritual. There is an enemy of your soul who would rather keep you distracted, uncertain, and unsure of who you really are—because he knows you were made for glory.
The tactic is simple: if we’re not clear on where we’re aiming, we can be manipulated into places we never intended to go.
Since the Fall, humanity has lived under the effects of sin. That’s why the fog is there. That’s why we so easily forget the glory we were made for. That’s why life often feels like swimming against the current.
The Good News of Clarity
But there is good news: growth, healing, and maturity are not only possible—they are promised in Christ.
Want a practical way to take this further? I’ve created a free Quick Clarity Checklist to help you cut through the fog and focus on what matters most.
God created the human heart to reflect His glory—to be radiant, alive, and whole. And as the Holy Spirit renews our minds and clears our vision, we begin to see who we are, what we’re made for, and how to live.
The abundant life isn’t a distant ideal. It’s your birthright in Christ.
Try This: A Simple Practice for Clarity
This week, take a simple step toward vision:
Set aside 5 minutes of silence—no distractions.
Ask yourself: Where in my life do I feel most unclear right now?
Write it down.
Each time confusion or discouragement surfaces in that area, pray this short prayer:
“Jesus, clear my vision—show me who You are, who I am, and what You’re calling me to today.”
One Step at a Time
The fog isn’t forever. Jesus is already at work to restore your vision.
One prayer, one moment of clarity, one step of obedience at a time—you’ll begin to see with new eyes.
So pause this week, lean into Him, and let the fog lift.
